The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! set I picked up today (along with cake) is assembled. For $17, it's probably one of the better values I've had with Lego. Two vehicles, lots of articulating parts, two Lego people, I'm happy with it, especially the flat-deck. Not sure what the sports car is supposed to be, a Suzuki Cappuccino maybe?

Anyway, I took two very quick shots. I think I'll use the first as my wallpaper for a bit, because, well, because Lego.

Yeah, yeah, that's all well and good, but I think the real question here is "WHAT ABOUT THE CAKE!?"

(Yes, i am stuck at work, bored out of my skull, reading Oppo when I should be writing code... why do you ask?)

Cream puff brownie cake. Yes, that is a thing. My pancreas is already screaming at me.

It's a treat for the wife when she gets home from work.

Must be LEGO day. Well, every day is LEGO day. Anyway, I bought this for myself a few weeks ago and finally got around to building it today. I had taken my boys to Toys R Us to get a gift for their friend's birthday, and saw this. After telling them numerous times that we were ONLY shopping for their friend, I saw this and bought it. My boys weren't amused.

I just finished the Sopwith Camel a couple of weeks ago. It was my souvenir from Legoland in CA. I'm interested in the GP racer, but I wish it were from a specific team. I have both the Ferrari Technic racers already. This one seems to be a development of the smaller of the two Ferraris.

Not just any two lego ppl... A damsel in distress with a purple scarf and 'Mac' the tow truck driver... ;-)

I have the VW Camper van and it looks good on the mantle much to my wife's chagrin... I built her the comvertible sports car, too, but she stills wants the real thing...

I've been collecting for a while and have three TECHNIC F1 cars from different LEGO eras.

Nice pics by the way...

The camel is cool, and the bus is a fun set but fragile. I built it, then a day later it rolled off the coffee table and exploded, then I rebuilt it and while trying to get a piece on that I missed (or something like that) it just fell apart in my hands.

Ouch, that sounds very unpleasant. The tow truck set is pretty solid. Lots of overlapping pieces. What was interesting (well I think it's interesting) is that the car had a unibody style construction, and the truck had a frame rail style construction.

I'm guessing that if it were from a specific team they would have to pay more for licensing and also run the risk of selling fewer of them because it's not "my team".

How did you like the Camel and the Ferrari Technic racers?

Yeah, I haven't rebuilt it. It's a fun set but putting 1000+ pieces together 3 days in a row is tiring. The Sopwith Camel sits on my desk at work, next to this guy:

Lol, Mac and his big tool.......

Thanks! I want to get some of the bigger sets, it's had to get the wife on board when they are $100+ each though. How do you like the larger sets?

Yes, it's all about licensing, and the only thing Lego seems to be licensing these days are movies. I'm a diehard Tifoso, but I'd buy another team set in a heartbeat.

The Technic racers were a blast to build. You can still find them on collector sites, but you'll likely pay dearly. The moving pistons on the engines, and the other details are fantastic. I believe the both feature sprung suspensions.

The Camel was also fun, though I'm a little disappointed with the flight surface controls. They don't work as well as I'd like, but I might be asking a bit much. The strut system is brilliant, though, and actually borrows members from the Ferrari F1 suspension. The radial engine looks great, too.

Thank you very much!

Unfortunately I don't have any other automotive LEGO pics. I just started getting back into LEGO. I had a tub of random blocks growing up that I used to build cars and planes with. I do have other pictures , mostly portraits, landscapes and some cars.

EDIT:

Forgot about this one. Photo Radar:

Here are a few from my Ferrari collection. The bigger Technic set is on the left, and the smaller is on the right. This is the one that is very similar to the new GP set. The center model is made of traditional Lego. It weighs a ton. There's a lot of money sitting on this table.....

Very awesome! It may be a lot of money, but it's very cool!

Based on the photo, I think I like the center model based on traditional Lego best.

Ha... Yeah - that wrench is ENORMOUS ! (I bet he gets that all the time.)

I've been a LEGO builder for most of my life - and that's a long time. Now that I can afford the bigger sets, I treat myself now and then. In fact, my wife knows that a big/complicated TECHNIC or Train set makes a great holiday gift for me. The way I get my wife on board otherwise is easy - I have very few vices in life. I don't smoke. I don't drink (much). I don't gamble. Instead, I have a motorcycle, a cheap econobox car with a turbo motor in it for some mild amusement, a bunch of LEGOs, and little more.

I enjoy the big sets. I'll stay up until the wee hours of the morning building them. It's hard to stop once you get going.

Here are a few potato camera shots (please excuse the lack of HD quality)...

No worries about HD photos vs non-HD photos. I don't judge.

I grew up with Lego, and it's something I've started getting back into.

That is an awesome collection! I really like the way you posed the Ferrari team. Also, that Class 3 Tow Truck looks really cool! Is that kit still available?

I use the potato camera as a matter of convenience. I have a half-decent photo rig for when I have the time&patience to break it out.

Anyway, the Tow Truck is discontinued set 8285. Most of the sellers on eBay or Amazon want crack-pipe prices for it.

I can't believe the amounts that these LEGO kit speculators are getting for discontinued sets. I buy LEGOs for me, my nephew, and my god-son - not to speculate on prices of the discontinued kit. Wow.

I just looked up the e-bay prices on the 8285 set... wow... Over a grand for a NIB. That's crazy!

If you don't me asking, when you are not using your potato camera, what do you use? I worked as a photographer for a few years. I built my way up to a full frame camera with an assortment of lights and prime lenses. I'm always keen to hear about what other people use.

Yeah. Sometimes I have a hard time coughing up $200+ for the new sets, but then I think about the time & effort that goes into designing them and I feel a little better.

As far as photo equipment, I have nothing as nice/elaborate as your rig. I have a mid-range Canon SX50HS. It takes real nice photos when I take the time to do it right. I don't think I could make a living on my photography skills - lord knows I would go hungry.
